Bishop David Oyedepo, the leader of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has challenged the Nigerian government to redirect its efforts toward resolving the nation’s ongoing security crisis instead of attempting to prohibit religious sermons in public transport vehicles. The cleric’s remarks follow a proposed revision to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Act, which seeks to criminalize preaching activities within commercial buses.
Oyedepo questioned the administration’s policy priorities, noting that the threat of violence and lawlessness across the country is a far more urgent concern than religious expression in public transit. He emphasized that the primary responsibility of the state is to ensure the safety and survival of its citizens. The bishop argued that as long as many Nigerians remain unable to feel secure in their own homes due to widespread instability, the focus on regulating transit-based preaching is misplaced and inappropriate.
