On Saturday, Nigeria participated in the 66th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Benin, highlighting the enduring bond and strategic partnership between the two nations. The festivities, hosted at the historic Amazone Square in Cotonou, showcased a variety of military drills and cultural performances.
Major Akinola Ajibola, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 9 Brigade, noted that a specialized Nigerian contingent attended at the invitation of the Beninese government. Brigadier General Ayokunle Olufemi Owolabi led the Nigerian troops through an impressive ceremonial march, which received significant praise from the gathered crowd.
The centerpiece of the Nigerian presentation was a silent drill that demonstrated exceptional coordination and technical skill. This display was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. Key attendees included the Nigerian Ambassador to Benin, Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, and the Nigerian Defence Attaché, Colonel S.A. Yahaya, alongside various international dignitaries.
