Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress, claims he is facing defamation charges specifically for his refusal to issue an apology to President Bola Tinubu. Following his court appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja this Monday, Sowore maintained his position that he will not offer any apology to the President.
Sowore argued that it is actually President Tinubu who owes an apology to the citizens of Nigeria for occupying an office for which he believes the President lacks the necessary qualifications. The activist questioned why he would be expected to apologize, noting that he never offered one to former President Muhammadu Buhari either. He stated that Tinubu should apologize every day for seeking a leadership role he is unfit to hold.
Regarding the defamation allegations, Sowore highlighted that he is being targeted for calling the President a criminal. He pointed out that other political figures, such as Atiku Abubakar, have leveled serious accusations against Tinubu as well, including claims of forgery and drug trafficking. Sowore questioned why he is being singled out while others make similar accusations without facing identical legal consequences.
