A public wake is underway at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin to honor the life of singer and songwriter Glen Hansard. The Academy Award winner passed away last week following a motorcycle accident. Crowds gathered at the Baroque Chapel throughout Monday morning to pay their final respects.
Among those attending were long-time fans like Ronan and Rebecca Buckley, who brought their children to the memorial. Many attendees shared personal stories of Hansard’s influence on their lives, ranging from his early days busking on Grafton Street to his iconic performances with the band The Frames. Chris James, a musician who was inspired to play guitar after seeing Hansard perform decades ago, described him as a humble individual dedicated to uniting people.
The musician’s funeral is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 PM at St Patrick’s Cathedral. Hansard, known for his work in the film Once and his success with The Swell Season and as a solo artist, received widespread tributes from fellow musicians including Bruce Springsteen and Ed Sheeran following his sudden death.
