The Lagos State chapter of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) has identified Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the premier choice for a consensus presidential candidate among the opposition coalition for the upcoming 2027 general elections. According to the APM, Makinde holds the necessary leadership aptitude, technical competence, and broad national appeal to serve as a viable alternative for the electorate.
Ayodele Kazeem, the State Publicity Secretary for the APM, stated that this endorsement stems from the Governor’s track record in governance rather than political expediency. He highlighted that Makinde’s tenure in Oyo State has been defined by fiscal responsibility, infrastructure growth, and improvements in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and education. Kazeem emphasized that the Governor’s ability to manage public resources efficiently while maintaining a bridge-building approach makes him a unique figure capable of fostering unity across party lines.
The APM maintains that the opposition must prioritize electability and national reach to successfully challenge for the presidency. Kazeem noted that Makinde possesses the necessary temperament and executive experience to navigate the complexities of the Nigerian political landscape. To support this goal, the party is actively organizing grassroots structures in Lagos to facilitate significant voter mobilization. Prince Laja Adeoye, the APM’s gubernatorial candidate, is spearheading a strategic framework aimed at securing five million votes through comprehensive polling-unit engagement and digital outreach efforts across all local government areas in the state.
