Tadej Pogacar, recently crowned a five-time Tour de France champion, has announced he will participate in this month’s Vuelta a Espana. The Slovenian star, racing for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, aims to secure a career Grand Tour triple, having already claimed victory at the Giro d’Italia earlier this year. Should he win in Spain, he will become only the ninth cyclist in history to capture all three major tours.
Reflecting on his return to the race, Pogacar noted that the Vuelta was his first major professional challenge back in 2019, where he achieved a third-place finish. He expressed enthusiasm about returning to Spanish roads to conclude his season. The race, which spans 21 stages from August 22 to September 13, will take riders from Monaco to Granada.
Pogacar’s dominance is currently unmatched, as he has secured victories in six of the seven World Tour events he entered this season. Following his performance at the Vuelta, he is expected to travel to Canada to defend his Road World Championships title. Despite the common modern trend of riders focusing exclusively on the Tour de France, Pogacar shows no signs of fatigue as he pursues historical milestones previously achieved by legends like Eddy Merckx and Jacques Anquetil.
