Viral Video Captures Police Officers Threatening Traveler Over Ethnicity on Lagos-Sagamu Expressway

A viral video shows Nigeria Police officers attempting to extort a passenger and making ethnic threats, leading to widespread public outcry.

A video recording featuring members of the Nigeria Police Force has sparked significant public indignation after they allegedly tried to force a passenger to pay a bribe along the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway. The incident, documented in a clip lasting over two minutes, shows an officer at a vehicle checkpoint pressuring the traveler for cash. The passenger, who identified himself as an Akure resident, resisted the demand, stating he had no funds to provide.

This refusal led to a tense confrontation involving several officers at the scene. During the altercation, one policeman explicitly told the traveler that he would have been slapped and placed under arrest if he were of Igbo descent. The footage began circulating online on Friday, prompting calls from the public for an immediate investigation and disciplinary action against the involved officers.
