Inhabitants of Ode-Irele, the administrative center of the Irele Local Government Area in Ondo State, are voicing frustration regarding the police department’s refusal to name four suspects apprehended following the abduction of Mrs. Morenike Falona. The victim, wife of well-known businessman Chief Babatunde Falona, was seized at her home by armed individuals on June 15, 2026. A collaborative mission involving local security forces and residents from the Ikale, Apoi, and Ijaw-Arogbo districts resulted in her safe return on June 18, 2026.
Although four individuals were captured shortly after the rescue and moved to the Akure Police Headquarters, authorities have remained tight-lipped regarding their identities or any formal legal charges. Sir Rufus Falona, a community leader speaking for the family, noted that the lack of official communication has fueled anxiety that the suspects might avoid legal consequences. He urged the Ondo State Commissioner of Police to accelerate the judicial process.
Responding to these worries, Ondo State Police spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi stated that the investigation demands discretion. He noted that revealing operational information too early could hinder the search for accomplices or complicate legal proceedings. Abayomi denied any attempts to shield criminals, promising that the command remains dedicated to justice and will provide updates when the investigation allows.
