The Lagos State Government is calling on drivers to adopt better parking habits as it prepares to launch a new, organized on-street parking system. According to Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), this initiative is designed to create a safer and more efficient environment for all road users.
Adelabu emphasized that motorists should incorporate parking logistics into their travel plans before heading out. She noted that finding an approved parking spot should be a primary concern rather than an afterthought. The authority has completed the necessary testing and planning phases and is now ready to implement the system.
Designated streets will feature specific markings to indicate where parking is permitted, paid, or prohibited. Drivers are urged to watch for road signs and pavement markings—such as red, single yellow, and double yellow lines—to ensure compliance. Adelabu pointed out that many residents are already paying for parking, and this formal system aims to bring transparency and accountability to those transactions, replacing unregulated practices.
Ultimately, the success of this reform depends on public cooperation. By adhering to traffic signs and parking regulations, residents can help the state improve traffic management and general accessibility across Lagos.
