The Nigeria Police Force has pledged support for the Police Community Relations Committee’s new Safe Schools Initiative, which aims to deploy 10,000 volunteers to protect schools nationwide.

The Nigeria Police Force has officially backed the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) regarding its new Safe Schools Initiative. This program involves deploying 10,000 volunteers to bolster security measures at educational institutions throughout the country. During a visit to the PCRC national headquarters in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Aniete Okokon Iniedu, representing Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, pledged the force’s full cooperation.

CSP Iniedu lauded the PCRC for their continued efforts in fostering police-community partnerships. He noted that the Safe Schools Initiative is a well-timed response to current security needs and fits into the national strategy for safer learning environments. The Force PRO also acknowledged the leadership of PCRC National Chairman Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, citing his dedication as a key factor in the committee’s success. As a show of support, the police received various contributions from the committee, including surveillance cameras intended to aid public communication efforts.

Alhaji Olaniyan highlighted that the initiative will focus on utilizing volunteers alongside local leaders and security stakeholders to safeguard schools. Furthermore, the plan includes installing CCTV systems in high-risk and remote areas. The PCRC also announced that its new national headquarters, set for completion in December, will be named after Inspector-General Disu to honor his commitment to community-based policing. The building will even feature a dedicated space for the Force PRO to facilitate ongoing cooperation.
