Gombe State University enhances campus safety with constant CCTV monitoring

Gombe State University has launched a 24-hour solar-powered CCTV surveillance system to improve campus safety and security operations.

Gombe State University has implemented an advanced CCTV network throughout its main campus to better protect the academic community and institutional property. This solar-powered system operates around the clock, tracking foot, vehicle, and bicycle traffic across the grounds. Feeds are directed to a central control room, which is further bolstered by improved radio communications for rapid emergency response.

Hadu Naphtali Ligari, the university’s spokesperson, released a statement on Friday detailing the initiative. Retired Lieutenant Commander Jafaru Kamara, the Chief Security Officer, praised the move as a major upgrade to the campus security framework. He credited Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sani Ahmed Yauta for the strategic investment, highlighting its role in streamlining monitoring, incident investigation, and overall coordination.

Prof. Yauta noted that this project is a key step in ensuring a secure atmosphere for research and education. He confirmed that the technology has already been utilized to review security events effectively. The Vice-Chancellor encouraged security staff to utilize the equipment with professionalism while reinforcing that the campus remains under constant surveillance to deter crime and foster accountability for all students, staff, and visitors.
