A 25-year-old man named Muhammad Mustapha has reportedly confessed to acting as an informant for Boko Haram. The suspect, a resident of Monguno Local Government Area, was detained on July 16 while military forces were conducting nighttime patrols. According to security expert Zagazola Makama, the arrest was made by members of the 403 Amphibious Brigade and 130 Battalion, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force and the Nigerian Borderless Logistics Corps under Operation DESERT SANITY V.
During initial questioning, Mustapha claimed to be affiliated with a combined Boko Haram and ISWAP cell located near Mairari town. He admitted to tracking the movements of Nigerian soldiers along the Baga–Cross Kauwa supply line. Furthermore, the suspect acknowledged his role in procuring supplies and collecting levies for the militant group operating near Lake Chad.
The suspect is presently being held by the 403 Amphibious Brigade for continued investigation. Military officials view this capture as a significant success in disrupting the insurgency’s support structure. While the region currently remains stable, troops continue to observe heightened security measures to mitigate threats.
