Ogun Police Prosecute 76 Suspects Following Operation KOSAYE Raids

Ogun State Police have charged 76 suspects with various crimes, including robbery and prostitution, following the launch of the anti-crime initiative Operation KOSAYE.

The Ogun State Police Command has officially brought 76 individuals before the court following a series of strategic raids and forest sweeps under the initiative known as Operation KOSAYE. The operation, a term implying that criminal elements have no room to operate, was launched by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to purge crime from Ogun and Lagos states while easing public concerns regarding banditry.

During a June joint operation spanning the borders of Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo, police apprehended 84 suspects. Subsequent enforcement on July 7 resulted in the arrest of 43 additional individuals. According to police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, thorough investigations led to the successful arraignment of 76 of these detainees, who have since been remanded in correctional custody.

The defendants, including individuals such as Ibrahim Lawal, Abubakar Abubakar, and Mary Samuel, face a comprehensive list of charges. These include cultism, armed robbery, prostitution, managing unlicensed brothels, and the unlawful possession of cannabis. Although the suspects entered pleas of not guilty, the command maintains its firm stance on pursuing these cases through the legal system.

DSP Babaseyi confirmed that the investigation remains active as authorities continue to dismantle criminal networks. He encouraged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior through the command’s designated emergency channels.
