Odumeje Challenges Religious Leaders to Confront Government Failures Instead of Seeking Favor

Odumeje, the founder of the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, has criticized fellow religious leaders for failing to hold the government accountable, urging them to prioritize truth over personal benefits.

Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, the leader of the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry in Onitsha, has argued that clergy members have a scriptural duty to oppose ineffective governance rather than cozying up to those in power. His comments follow recent remarks by Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who stated that President Bola Tinubu is attempting to resolve Nigeria’s security crises.

Addressing his congregation, Odumeje criticized the tendency of some religious leaders to praise political figures. He insisted that pastors should be bold in calling out injustice, noting that elected officials are public servants who must answer to the populace. He argued that government officials should not be lauded for simply performing the duties they were elected to fulfill, as they are managing public funds, not their own.

The preacher expressed frustration over Nigerians celebrating basic infrastructure projects, arguing that such developments are funded by the people and are therefore a right rather than a favor. He condemned the lack of tangible progress in the country, alleging that many politicians prioritize personal enrichment over national development. Reflecting on history, Odumeje praised Ojukwu for his early advocacy for Igbo rights and lamented the current state of governance, where he believes citizens’ needs are neglected while political elites enjoy privileges overseas. He concluded by suggesting that conflicts in regions rich in natural resources are often fueled by hidden agendas, and he expressed deep disappointment with the current political climate.
