Jayden Adams, a midfielder for South Africa who competed in the current World Cup, has died at age 25. Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie confirmed the news, expressing deep sadness over the loss of such a promising football talent. The cause of death remains unconfirmed.
Authorities have initiated an investigation following the discovery of a 25-year-old man’s body at a residence in the Cape Town suburb of Schotschekloof on Saturday morning. Police spokesperson FC van Wyk stated that the situation is currently under inquiry.
Adams participated in all three of South Africa’s group-stage fixtures during the tournament, though he was absent for the knockout loss against Canada. A Cape Town native, he played for Stellenbosch FC before transferring to the Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025. His passing occurs shortly after the death of his grandmother, an event that occurred just before the match against Czechia, during which Adams played despite his personal grief.
