Peter Obi Challenges Kenneth Okonkwo to Disclose Allegations or Face Defamation Suit

NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has pledged to withdraw from the 2027 election if Kenneth Okonkwo proves he is unfit for office, stating that his defamation lawsuit is a move to compel the production of evidence.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared his intention to exit the 2027 presidential race if Kenneth Okonkwo provides valid evidence suggesting he is unsuitable for the position. This statement follows a defamation lawsuit Obi initiated against Okonkwo, who currently serves as a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

During a discussion with host Chude Jideonwo, the former Anambra State governor clarified that his legal action is not an attempt to suppress speech. Instead, he aims to force Okonkwo to provide proof for the negative claims he has frequently leveled against him. Obi emphasized that the public has a right to be fully informed about the character of those vying for leadership.

Obi explicitly challenged Okonkwo to reveal the sensitive details he claims to have acquired while previously serving as Obi’s spokesperson. By pursuing this litigation, the NDC candidate maintains he is simply calling Okonkwo’s bluff and demanding transparency regarding these alleged secrets.
