The United Kingdom is enduring another day of intense heat, with temperatures hitting 35C. Forecasters expect these heatwave conditions to persist through the end of next week. On Thursday, the country recorded its eighth day this year with temperatures exceeding 34C, surpassing the previous annual record of seven days set in 1976 and 2020.
While this current weather event may last until next week, some areas will experience temporary relief. A north-easterly breeze is expected to bring cooler air from the North Sea on Saturday, though the south and east of England will remain within heatwave territory. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has maintained amber and yellow health alerts across most of England until 21:00 BST on Sunday.
Thursday saw Wisley in Surrey reach a peak of 35.5C. Other regions also experienced high temperatures, with Cardiff reaching 31.3C, Charterhall hitting 29.3C, and Killowen registering 27.5C. Friday’s heat is expected to shift toward Berkshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, and eastern Wales, with highs projected between 34C and 35C.
Beyond the heat, high pollen levels are causing concern. Dry conditions, light winds, and a lack of rain are allowing grass and weed pollen to accumulate. This situation, combined with warm nights that prevent physical recovery, presents a significant challenge for hay fever sufferers and vulnerable groups, including the elderly and those with existing health issues.
