Presidency links internal staff to PFIPC fraud as calls for investigation grow

The Presidency is calling for a probe into government insiders who allegedly helped Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi operate the fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, while critics demand answers regarding potential budget allocations to the non-existent agency.

The scandal surrounding the bogus Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has expanded, with the Presidency asserting that internal government collaborators assisted Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi in executing his elaborate scheme. While the Presidency maintains the entity is entirely fabricated, the Kwankwasiyya Movement is demanding transparency regarding claims that the council received budgetary funding.

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, stated that security agencies including the DSS, the Nigeria Police Force, and the EFCC must identify and prosecute officials who helped Adeyemi forge appointment letters and manage 34 bank accounts tied to fake agencies. Ajayi characterized Adeyemi as a persistent fraudster who attempted to involve Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to deflect from his criminal activities.

The Presidency noted that officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission eventually flagged the activity, leading to a June 2026 public disclaimer from Gbajabiamila. Adeyemi currently faces an eight-count charge of fraud and forgery at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with further court dates scheduled for late July.

However, the Kwankwasiyya Movement, through spokesperson Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, argued that the government must address reports that over 1 billion naira was allocated to a similar body in the 2026 Appropriation Act. The group stressed the need for an independent inquiry into how such a project entered the budget if it truly never existed. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has echoed these concerns, calling for the ICPC to launch an independent probe into both Adeyemi and the Chief of Staff to determine how the fraud persisted within official systems for so long.
