Nigeria U-17 Women defeat Benin Republic in high-scoring qualifier

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team overcame the Benin Republic 3-2 in a competitive first-leg qualifying match held in Ikenne.

The Nigerian Flamingos secured a narrow 3-2 win against the Benin Republic on Saturday. This first leg of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final qualifying round took place at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne.

Benin took an early advantage when Yenido Romaine Gandonou scored in the 14th minute. Nigeria responded quickly, with Queen Joseph finding the net to level the score just 10 minutes later. The Flamingos took control in the 62nd minute thanks to a goal from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi.

Although Nazifatou Dangui equalized for Benin in the 72nd minute, the deadlock did not last long. Ifeanyi Kindness delivered the decisive goal for Nigeria three minutes later. The teams are scheduled to face each other again at the Stade de Kegue in Lome next weekend.
