Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has directed the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, to aggressively pursue and apprehend all criminal suspects in the region. During a meeting in Osogbo with political leaders, traditional authorities, and student representatives, Disu expressed strong disapproval regarding political figures who protect violent offenders.
Highlighting the upcoming gubernatorial election, Disu emphasized that the contest is not a conflict. He noted that over 20 deaths have been recorded recently, stating that such violence is unacceptable. The IGP addressed reports that suspects were allegedly being sheltered within the government house, noting that Governor Ademola Adeleke has explicitly authorized the arrest of anyone involved in criminal activities, including his own relatives.
During the meeting, representatives from the All Progressives Congress and the Accord Party exchanged accusations regarding who is responsible for the ongoing unrest. Adebayo Adeleke of the APC claimed that wanted thugs are hiding in the government house, while Bamidele Salaam of the Accord party accused the APC of inciting violence to gain power.
Oba Peter Akinyooye, the Olufon of Ifon-Orolu, called for the prosecution of criminals to deter future violence. Disu concluded by reaffirming his commitment to maintaining order throughout the electoral process and tasked the police force to ensure no suspect remains beyond the reach of the law.
