Contenders for the 2027 National Assembly seats representing the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State have called on dissatisfied party members to support the recent primary election outcomes. Speaking in Akure after arriving from Abuja, the candidates emphasized that maintaining unity is vital for the party’s success in the upcoming general elections.
Dr. Michael Akintomide, the candidate for the Ondo West/Ondo East Federal Constituency, spoke on behalf of the group. He urged supporters to disregard rumors circulating on social media and discouraged participation in any protests. He stressed that the National Working Committee followed the APC constitution and that party supremacy must be respected. Akintomide also noted that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa continues to lead the party in the state effectively.
Addressing the potential for internal friction, Akintomide downplayed concerns that post-primary disputes would jeopardize their electoral chances. He stated that disagreements are a natural part of democratic processes and expressed confidence that members will eventually align for the common good. Similarly, Jimi Odimayo, the candidate for Irele/Okitipupa, encouraged members to view the party as a single family and rally behind the chosen candidates. Odimayo also extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the National Working Committee, and Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for their guidance.
The Director-General of the Asiwaju Mandate Group, Olumuyiwa Asagunla, noted that the reception was held to honor the leadership of President Tinubu. He shared that his group has been actively engaging with local residents since March 2024 and believes that the accomplishments of the current administration will bolster the party’s performance in 2027. He concluded by reiterating the importance of reconciliation and prioritizing the party’s collective success over individual ambitions.
