The Osun State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally praised the state police command for preventing a planned attack on Wole Oke, the Director-General of its governorship campaign. This praise followed the Thursday presentation of three suspects detained in connection with an alleged conspiracy to kill Oke in Ipetu Ijesa on June 30, 2026.
Authorities identified the men in custody as disc jockey Olalekan Oriyomi, 44-year-old Ayotunde Ikupolati, and 31-year-old Femi Fakinleye. Representing Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan, spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed that officers seized an English Beretta pistol and four live rounds of ammunition from one of the detained individuals.
Kola Olabisi, the APC Director of Media and Publicity, issued a statement on Friday expressing relief that the police acted quickly. The party emphasized that a successful assassination would have likely triggered unnecessary social unrest and misplaced blame. The APC further urged the police to uncover any hidden figures who might have ordered or supported the attempt.
The opposition party criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke and Accord Party chairman Victor Akande for their silence on the matter, noting that neither has condemned the incident. Furthermore, the APC encouraged its supporters to remain peaceful while backing candidate Bola Oyebamiji for the upcoming August 15, 2026, election.
