Kano State Government Supplies 150 Truckloads of Fertiliser to Local Farmers

Governor Kabir Yusuf has initiated the distribution of 90,000 bags of subsidised fertiliser across Kano State to boost food security and assist farmers during the 2026 farming season.

Governor Kabir Yusuf has officially launched the distribution of 90,000 bags of subsidised fertiliser to support farmers throughout Kano State. This effort is aimed at bolstering local food security as the 2026 wet farming season approaches.

The supplies, transported in 150 trucks, are being divided among the 44 local government areas and 484 political wards. Governor Yusuf highlighted that agriculture is a fundamental aspect of his administration’s focus. Over the last three years, the government has focused on revitalising the sector through improved inputs, better farming techniques, and pest control.

By providing these subsidised goods, the government aims to enhance crop yields, lower food prices, and support rural employment. Each local government area is set to receive approximately three truckloads. Within each ward, the supply is allocated to support 70 individual farmers.

The fertiliser is being sold for N25,000 per bag, representing a 50 percent subsidy provided through a partnership between the state and local governments, as market prices currently hover around N50,000. To guarantee that the process remains transparent and fair, the governor has appointed a distribution committee led by the Commissioner for Agriculture, alongside committees at the local government level. Additionally, the governor expressed appreciation to security agencies for their ongoing efforts to maintain order across the state.
