Peter Obi Urges INEC to Release Candidate Academic Qualifications

Peter Obi has requested that INEC publish all candidate academic credentials to improve electoral transparency and restore public trust in the leadership selection process.

Peter Obi, the presidential hopeful representing the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disclose the academic credentials of all individuals running for office. This request follows Obi’s observations regarding specific inquiries on the INEC nomination form, which touch upon both mental health and the validity of academic records.

Obi asserts that publicizing these documents will foster transparency and bolster faith in the national electoral system. He questioned the necessity of keeping such information private, noting that the public deserves to know the qualifications of those seeking to lead. He emphasized that genuine democracy relies on public trust, stating that current national difficulties demand leaders who prioritize competence, integrity, and dedicated service.

Furthermore, the candidate raised concerns regarding nomination form questions about a candidate’s mental state. He suggested that the prevailing national issues—such as kidnapping, economic hardship, and insecurity—might indicate a lack of sound judgment among current leaders. He concluded that the country’s stability must be placed above partisan interests, calling for an urgent, unified response to the ongoing crises facing Nigeria.
