Suspected kidnappers murder security guard and abduct teenager in Ughelli North

A security guard was killed and his 14-year-old daughter was kidnapped in Uduere, Ughelli North, with attackers demanding a 100 million naira ransom.

An atmosphere of fear has gripped Uduere community in Delta State’s Ughelli North Local Government Area following the brutal slaying of a security guard and the abduction of his 14-year-old daughter. This incident follows a recent violent attack by herdsmen in the nearby Edjekota area. Reports indicate that the victim, Umukoro Obukohwo Emmanuel, was working at a local poultry farm early Sunday morning when he was attacked. Assailants reportedly intercepted him at the facility’s gate, killing him with a machete before entering the property and seizing his teenage daughter.

Local residents have expressed frustration regarding the security climate, alleging that community leadership disputes have hindered effective safety measures. Critics point to the disbandment of a previous local security group as a factor in the current vulnerability of the area. Family members have confirmed that the kidnappers have reached out, issuing a demand for a 100 million naira ransom for the girl’s safe return.

Attempts to secure comments from Delta State Police spokesperson SP Edafe Bright were unsuccessful. However, a police official familiar with the investigation stated that authorities are actively pursuing the perpetrators to ensure the victim is rescued.
