Claressa Shields to challenge Kaye Scott before expected match against Lauren Price

Five-division world champion Claressa Shields will face middleweight titleholder Kaye Scott in Atlanta this August ahead of a planned future bout against Lauren Price.

Undisputed boxing champion Claressa Shields is moving down to the middleweight division to face WBC and WBA titleholder Kaye Scott. The bout is scheduled for August 15 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. At 31 years old, Shields remains the most accomplished female boxer in history and will make history as the first woman to headline the 16,888-seat venue.

Scott, an accomplished Australian amateur, currently holds the middleweight belts she secured following a victory over Olivia Curry last December. Shields noted that she prioritizes legacy-defining contests rather than simple matchups, aiming to reclaim status as an undisputed champion at 160 pounds.

This summer fight serves as a precursor to a highly anticipated encounter with fellow Olympic gold medalist Lauren Price. Promoter Ben Shalom indicated that the pair could potentially meet in the United Kingdom by June of next year, following Shields’ summer engagement. Shields emphasized that the Atlanta event is a strategic move to continue expanding the reach and popularity of women’s professional boxing.
