William Troost-Ekong Credits South Africa for World Cup 2026 Qualification

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong admits South Africa’s consistent performance throughout the 2026 World Cup qualifiers made them deserving of their tournament spot.

Ex-Super Eagles skipper William Troost-Ekong has stated that South Africa earned their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Bafana Bafana secured the top spot in a qualifying group that also featured Nigeria, marking their return to the tournament for the first time since 2010.

Conversely, the Super Eagles missed out on the competition for the second straight time, following a playoff defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Troost-Ekong attributed South Africa’s success to their superior consistency throughout the qualifying campaign.

In an interview with Supersport, the defender explained that Nigeria spent the qualifiers struggling to close the gap after losing crucial points early on. He concluded that South Africa’s performance made them worthy participants. The team is now preparing to play South Korea in their final group match this Thursday.
