Kieron Pollard Becomes Leading Run-Scorer in T20 History

Kieron Pollard has overtaken Chris Gayle as T20 cricket’s leading run-scorer after reaching 14,583 runs during a match for MI New York.

Kieron Pollard, the former West Indies all-rounder, has surpassed Chris Gayle to become the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 cricket. The 39-year-old achieved this milestone while playing for MI New York in Major League Cricket, reaching a career total of 14,583 runs. This performance allowed him to move past Gayle’s long-standing record of 14,562.

While 1,569 of his runs were earned during T20 international matches, the vast majority were accumulated through various domestic and franchise leagues worldwide. Gayle had held the top spot since 2014, with his final competitive T20 appearance occurring in 2022. The record remains under pressure from other active players, including Alex Hales and Jos Buttler, who follow closely in the standings.

Beyond his run tally, Pollard also holds the record for the most T20 appearances at 736 matches. Currently balancing a dual career as both a player and a coach, he has served as the batting coach for the Mumbai Indians and is slated to head the MI London team in The Hundred. Notably, Pollard is the only middle-order specialist among the top six run-scorers in the format. While Gayle still maintains the lead for the most career sixes with 1,056, Pollard trails him by only 70.
