Donald Trump Criticizes Giorgia Meloni Following Photo Dispute

Donald Trump has continued his verbal assault on Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, accusing her of begging for a photo and undermining US military efforts against Iran.

Donald Trump has publicly lashed out at Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, reiterating his assertion that she repeatedly requested a photograph with him during the recent G7 summit. Writing on Truth Social, Trump further alleged that Meloni failed to support American initiatives aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities. He claimed she created significant logistical hurdles by restricting the US military’s use of Italian airbases for operations related to Iran. Meloni previously expressed surprise at Trump’s original claim that she pleaded for a picture, asserting that neither she nor Italy begs for anything. The discord has contributed to a growing diplomatic strain between the two nations, evidenced by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani canceling a scheduled visit to the United States. Although the two leaders appeared cordial during the G7, Trump later told Italian broadcaster La7 that he felt pity for her and claimed she was desperate to improve her low popularity numbers in Italy. Meloni responded via Instagram, labeling the comments as regrettable and questioning why the US president would target an ally while seemingly appeasing Western adversaries. The tensions reflect a broader pattern of friction between the two figures, following previous public disagreements over Trump’s comments regarding the Pope.
