Ali Mustapha, a 55-year-old farmer from Borno State, received a 15-year prison sentence for failing to disclose details regarding Boko Haram operations in his community of Katara. The Federal High Court in Abuja, led by Justice Binta Fatimah Nyako, handed down the ruling without providing an option for a fine.
Mustapha has been incarcerated since his initial arrest in 2013, when he was brought to court by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation. During the proceedings, the defense highlighted that the convict lived in an extremely isolated region where security personnel and government representatives were unavailable to receive reports. Justice Nyako acknowledged this factor during her deliberation. The court specified that the 15-year sentence will count from the date of his arrest in 2013.
