South Carolina Judge Survives Suspected Arson Blast That Destroyed Her Beach Home
A South Carolina judge, Diane Goodstein, has spoken publicly after her $1.5 million beach house was destroyed in a fire that left her husband and son injured over the weekend.
The 69-year-old circuit court judge told Daily Mail she was “alright” after the terrifying incident, which occurred while she was taking a walk along the beach in Edisto. Her husband, former state senator Arnold Goodstein, reportedly leaped from a first-floor window to escape the flames, sustaining multiple broken bones.
Authorities say the blaze, which completely consumed the four-bedroom beachfront property, may have been triggered by an explosion and is now being investigated as a possible arson case.
The fire comes only weeks after Judge Goodstein made headlines for blocking the Trump administration’s bid to access sensitive voter registration data for more than 3.3 million South Carolina residents.
Reports suggest that the judge received death threats following the ruling, though investigators have not established a direct link between those threats and the fire.
Democratic Congressman Daniel Goldman has accused Trump’s former Deputy Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller, of “doxxing” judges who ruled against Trump, arguing that such actions endanger their lives. Miller has denied the accusation.
South Carolina Chief Justice John Kittredge confirmed that the fire stemmed from an “apparent explosion” and said the state’s law enforcement division has launched a full investigation.
Local authorities have since implemented additional security measures for Judge Goodstein and her family as the inquiry continues.
