The Nigerian government has greenlit ₦46 billion for the reconstruction and resurfacing of the second runway at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, shared the news during the inauguration of the newly upgraded Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo Domestic Terminal.
Keyamo noted that President Bola Tinubu authorized the funds as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda to upgrade aviation infrastructure. The minister highlighted that this runway project aims to boost operational efficiency and help the facility compete on an international scale. He described Kano as a crucial commercial center for Northern Nigeria, playing a significant role in the national economy.
Furthermore, the minister reported that contractors have begun work on the airport’s Hajj Terminal. The terminal remodelling project is intended to improve passenger comfort, safety, and service quality across the nation. The facility was renamed to honor Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo for his service to the aviation sector.
The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Olubunmi Kuku, stated that the terminal upgrade demonstrates the agency’s dedication to high-quality facilities. Abdullahi Ganduje, the FAAN Board Chairman, praised the government for focusing on Kano’s aviation needs, noting that these developments will cement the city’s status as a top commercial and travel hub.
