During a recent meeting in Ikeja, Lagos, the leadership of United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) disclosed that the company has been tapping into its reserve funds and shareholder capital to maintain flight services. According to Managing Director Mazi Osita Okonkwo, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has driven operational expenses higher over the last several months.
Okonkwo explained that despite these financial pressures, the airline remains committed to its long-term goals. He noted that the company has essentially been subsidizing operations to ensure consistent travel availability for Nigerians, maintaining confidence in the nation’s economic future. The meeting, which hosted representatives from Vanguard Newspapers, also highlighted the airline’s interest in collaborative efforts to boost its public profile.
Adedayo Olawuyi, the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the carrier’s desire to broaden its reach through improved communication with passengers. He stated that the organization is eager to foster partnerships that utilize both traditional and digital media to demonstrate value and strengthen the airline’s market position.
