The Rivers State administration has refuted claims suggesting a new dispute exists between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly regarding the 2026 Appropriation Bill. Officials labeled these rumors as incorrect, clarifying that the budget is simply following standard legislative procedures.
Onwuka Nzeshi, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, stated on Wednesday that the executive and legislative branches are collaborating for the benefit of the public. He emphasized that the governor remains in harmony with the lawmakers to ensure effective governance.
Regarding the status of the budget, Nzeshi confirmed that the proposal is currently being reviewed by the Assembly. He expressed confidence that the bill will be enacted once the legislative requirements are fulfilled. The government also urged the public to disregard rumors intended to incite political tension, noting that the state requires stability to foster development.
This clarification follows ongoing political discussions in the state. Recent speculation about the executive-legislative dynamic increased after Governor Fubara’s alignment with political associates of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, leading many to anticipate a seamless budget approval process.
