Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, asserts that the suspension and prosecution of Commissioner for Works, Rueben Rume Izeze, demonstrate his administration’s dedication to the rule of law and internal discipline. During a meeting at the Government House in Asaba with the new General Officer Commanding of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Everest Ifeanyi Okoro, Oborevwori stated that no appointee is exempt from legal scrutiny.
The governor explained that state authorities permitted the police to conduct a full investigation into assault allegations against Izeze before his arrest and subsequent court appearance. By suspending the commissioner, the administration signaled that all public officials remain subject to established legal processes. Oborevwori emphasized that this firm stance on accountability helps maintain the state’s ethical standards.
Addressing the broader security landscape, Oborevwori attributed the current stability in Delta State to close cooperation between the government and security forces. He highlighted the importance of a peaceful environment for economic growth, oil production, and investment. The governor pledged ongoing logistical support for the military, referencing recent infrastructure projects like the housing units built at the Agbor barracks as proof of this partnership.
