Teenager killed by lightning strike in Enugu community

A 19-year-old man named Chukwujekwu Eyah died after being struck by lightning in Enugu State while four companions sleeping nearby remained unhurt.

Chukwujekwu Eyah, a 19-year-old, lost his life after being struck by lightning while sleeping at his maternal grandmother’s house in Ogboli, Ugbaike, located in the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State. The event happened around 1 a.m. on Monday. Notably, four other boys sharing the bed with Eyah were not affected by the strike.

While law enforcement has not provided an official report, family members confirmed the burial took place this past Wednesday. Relatives of the deceased suggested the tragedy was linked to a traditional belief involving rain-making tools formerly owned by the teenager’s father. According to the family, Eyah had allegedly interacted with these items in Iheaka without observing the necessary traditional rituals.

The family conducted a private investigation through divination, concluding that the incident was a consequence of failing to maintain or return the traditional instruments properly. No damage to property or other injuries were reported. As of now, these claims remain unverified by independent authorities.
