Youri Tielemans’ debut signals promise for Manchester United

Youri Tielemans displayed promising chemistry with Bruno Fernandes during his Manchester United debut against PSG, while Marcus Rashford prepares to rejoin the squad.

Youri Tielemans made his first appearance for Manchester United during a 1-1 friendly draw against Paris St-Germain in Gothenburg. The 29-year-old midfielder, who secured a five-year contract after the club activated a £35m release clause at Aston Villa, entered the match early following a minor injury to Mason Mount. While his performance was measured, his precise link-up play with Bruno Fernandes impressed team officials.

Director of football Jason Wilcox praised the acquisition, noting Tielemans’ long-standing Premier League experience and his potential to bring composure to the midfield. The brief cameo suggested he could effectively share creative responsibilities with Fernandes, who was pivotal in the club’s recent return to the Champions League.

Meanwhile, head coach Michael Carrick confirmed the return of Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, and Lisandro Martinez to the squad ahead of a training camp in the Republic of Ireland. Rashford returns to Manchester United after his loan spell at Barcelona ended without a permanent transfer. Carrick expressed optimism about integrating the squad fully before upcoming friendlies against Leeds United and AC Milan, as the club prepares for the new season.
