Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart Buba Galadima has revealed the reasons behind Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s reluctance to join the party for the 2027 election cycle. During the NDC reconciliation committee’s inauguration, Galadima stated that the governor received counsel against aligning with a political party that already features a formidable presidential contender.
Galadima noted that the governor is currently maintaining a neutral stance, leaving open the possibility of supporting either the NDC or President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Galadima, while President Tinubu currently holds sway over most state governors, Governor Mohammed remains the exception.
Reflecting on a late-night negotiation that lasted until 3:00 am, Galadima recalled that the governor had initially agreed to defect. However, he reversed his decision the following morning after receiving advice that joining a party with an established presidential candidate would be strategically unwise. Consequently, the governor remains undecided between the two major political paths.
