Public Outcry: Nigerian Stars Defend Peter Okoye Following Critical Comments by Jude

A group of Nigerian celebrities has rallied around Peter Okoye after his brother Jude made disparaging remarks about the trajectory of Peter’s music career.

Numerous prominent Nigerian figures have expressed their backing for Peter Okoye, formerly of the music group P-Square, following harsh comments from his older brother and former manager, Jude Okoye. The conflict stems from a public exchange where Jude asserted that Paul Okoye’s career has flourished since their split, while claiming Peter’s success has diminished.

Jude’s blunt remark, telling Peter that his career is sliding while Paul’s is rising, sparked a wave of backlash. In response, social media users and celebrities labeled Jude as unsupportive. Actress Evans Okoro led the charge, urging fans to stream Peter’s latest music to demonstrate solidarity. Her call was echoed by actress Destiny Etiko, who shared Peter’s track, I Can’t Look Away, while emphasizing the need for higher streaming numbers.

Influencer Eseoghene Obire, widely known as Xxssive, criticized Jude’s behavior, suggesting he was fortunate to have a calm brother. Meanwhile, comedian Deacon Famous argued that the power structure within P-Square had been inequitable, alleging that Jude took a larger percentage of earnings than the twins. He characterized the professional arrangement as fundamentally flawed.

This public outpouring of support involves various entertainers, including Cynthia Morgan, Nkechi Blessing, and Auta Waziri. The tension between the brothers dates back to accusations regarding music royalties, which intensified significantly following Jude’s February 2025 arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
