Ukrainian forces strike two major Russian oil refineries

Ukraine has conducted long-range strikes against two major Russian oil refineries, aiming to diminish Moscow’s war funding while facing deadly retaliatory drone attacks across several Ukrainian regions.

Ukraine has conducted long-range strikes against two Russian oil refineries as part of a campaign to restrict funds Moscow uses for its military operations. President Volodymyr Zelensky identified the targeted facilities as the Slavneft-Yanos refinery and the Bashneft-Novoil refinery. The latter is located in the Bashkortostan republic, approximately 1,300km from the Ukrainian border, while the Slavneft-Yanos site is about 700km away.

Mikhail Evraev, the regional governor of Yaroslavl, reported that Slavneft-Yanos caught fire following a significant drone assault. He stated that 93 drones were intercepted over the region, though debris damaged storage tanks, leaving four individuals injured. Additionally, President Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian operations also targeted two Russian military patrol boats and vessels belonging to the so-called shadow fleet used to export sanctioned oil.

The conflict continues to escalate with reciprocal attacks on critical infrastructure. Russian forces launched drone strikes against Ukraine, resulting in at least 11 deaths and widespread power outages. In the Kharkiv region town of Balakliya, three people died following attacks on residential buildings. In Lozova, an additional two fatalities occurred at a train station, while five more people were killed in the Dnipropetrovsk region. In Kherson, a hit on a critical infrastructure facility caused a total blackout, leading to significant internet disruption as confirmed by NetBlocks.

Both nations have intensified their focus on warehouses, transport links, and energy assets while the front line remains largely unchanged. Russia claimed to have intercepted 605 Ukrainian drones, maintaining that its own strikes continue to target energy and fuel facilities across Ukraine.
