Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has called upon members of the Nigeria Police Force to actively participate in the national debate regarding the potential creation of State Police. During a workshop hosted by the Nigeria Police Institute in Abuja on Thursday, Disu emphasized that officers should contribute through factual analysis and public education.
The IGP highlighted the importance of this event for examining the security policy shift. He encouraged attendees to evaluate the implications of such reforms, address public concerns, and share their findings with colleagues at their specific commands. By spreading this knowledge, Disu aims to clear up misunderstandings and foster professional readiness for future structural changes in the nation’s law enforcement.
Professor Olu Ogunshakin, Director-General of the Nigeria Police Institute, praised the IGP for his work with the Steering Committee on State Police. Ogunshakin noted that the committee’s input has already shaped the current framework for police reform, ensuring that the force remains prepared, professional, and effective.
