Hon. Babajimi Benson, who leads the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, has praised President Bola Tinubu for authorizing higher salaries and improved benefits for the Nigerian Armed Forces. Benson stated that these changes will significantly strengthen national security.
The President also received praise for expanding the Nigerian Army. This includes the creation of four new divisions in Benin City, Ilorin, Jalingo, and Makurdi, as well as the addition of 28,000 new troops. In a Thursday statement, Benson labeled these actions as timely and visionary, noting that better pay will boost morale and help attract high-quality recruits.
Benson explained that increasing the number of divisions will improve command structures, speed up troop deployments, and tighten border security. These efforts are designed to better combat threats such as kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism. He emphasized that these reforms reflect the President’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to create a professional and globally competitive force.
Finally, the lawmaker pledged that the House Committee on Defence would provide the necessary legislative backing and oversight to ensure these initiatives succeed. He believes these measures will increase public trust and help foster long-term stability throughout the nation.
