A 23-year-old man, Dolars Aleksanders, has been charged in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of 12-year-old Keaton Slater in Coventry. The incident occurred on June 14, 2024, as the boy was walking home from school and was struck by a black BMW.
Following his arrest in Latvia last month, Aleksanders was extradited to the United Kingdom, arriving at Gatwick Airport this past Wednesday. West Midlands Police confirmed that he faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving and is scheduled to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Authorities pursued extradition proceedings since identifying the Latvian national as a person of interest shortly after the collision. A representative for the Crown Prosecution Service noted that the successful return of the suspect was the result of extensive collaboration between British and Latvian law enforcement, alongside international partners, to ensure he faces legal proceedings within the UK justice system.
