Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has suggested a partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Judicial Institute to bolster the legal and investigative skills of police officers. Disu presented this idea on Wednesday during a visit to the Abuja headquarters of the NJI, where he met with Administrator Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo and other senior officials.
The IGP noted that this initiative would provide ongoing training for prosecutors, investigators, and police attorneys. Key topics for these sessions include cybercrime, digital forensics, electronic evidence, human rights, and effective case management. Disu believes these efforts will foster greater professionalism and enhance the overall administration of criminal justice throughout Nigeria.
Beyond standard training, the proposal includes executive education, professional certification programs, and shared research ventures. Disu emphasized that the force is dedicated to following the rule of law and building alliances to improve public safety and legal outcomes. Justice Adejumo expressed support for the plan, viewing it as a vital move to align the judiciary and the police more closely. He confirmed the NJI’s willingness to assist in the professional growth of police staff to improve the national justice system. Additionally, Adejumo praised the establishment of a police outpost at the institute, which has helped ensure local security.
