Following a recent data breach at Zenith Bank, customers in Nigeria are being encouraged to review their financial statements to ensure their funds are secure. Dr. Uju Ogunbunka, who leads the Bank Consumers Association of Nigeria, emphasized the severity of the situation during a discussion with the DAILY POST on Wednesday.
This alert follows an official acknowledgment from Zenith Bank on Tuesday, confirming that unauthorized parties accessed private customer information. Dr. Ogunbunka stressed that account holders must take proactive steps to protect their assets. He suggested that users should actively monitor their transaction history and reach out to their designated account managers for clarification.
Dr. Ogunbunka recommended that customers log into their accounts or physically visit a branch to obtain a balance statement. By comparing their current records with previous activity, clients can identify any suspicious or unauthorized interventions. Additionally, he called upon financial institutions across Nigeria to strengthen their cybersecurity measures to mitigate the risk of future vulnerabilities.
