The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the arrest of a primary suspect linked to the destruction of six electrical transmission towers on the Yola-Jalingo 330kV line. TCN maintenance crews identified the damage during an inspection on July 29, noting that towers T995, T998, T999, T1002, T1003, and T1004 were compromised by the theft of roughly 130 structural components.
A collaborative operation between TCN and local law enforcement took place on July 30, involving engagement with community leaders to locate the perpetrators. By August 1, police notified the company that they had taken a lead suspect into custody and reclaimed a portion of the pilfered materials. TCN representatives inspected these items afterward and have pressed for rigorous legal action against the individual.
Authorities are currently utilizing information provided by the detainee to track down remaining accomplices involved in the scheme. TCN leadership denounced these recurring acts of sabotage, highlighting the severe danger they pose to the national grid and the power sector’s long-term infrastructure. They are also encouraging citizens to inform security services or company offices about any suspicious behavior near transmission assets.
