The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) successfully removed over 18,660 metric tonnes of municipal waste in a single week. This surge in productivity follows key upgrades at the Olusosun Disposal Facility, specifically the repair of access roads and the addition of new disposal platforms.
Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director of LAWMA, reported that 1,866 truck trips occurred between July 28 and August 3, 2026. The Olusosun site alone saw 1,012 trips, a 76 percent increase compared to the previous week’s 574 trips. These structural improvements have decreased truck wait times and accelerated overall operations.
On August 1, the agency achieved its peak daily performance by processing 349 truckloads, amounting to approximately 3,490 tonnes of waste. Other facilities such as Ewu-Elepe, Badagry, and the Igando Waste-to-Wealth site also contributed to these results. Moving forward, LAWMA plans to build modern Transfer Loading Stations, acquire new compactor trucks, and push toward a sustainable waste-to-energy system to align with the Lagos State Government’s environmental goals.
