Three brothers working as local security volunteers were shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Tarai community, located in the Jol village of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State. The incident occurred late Tuesday evening around 10:47 p.m. while the trio was conducting a routine patrol to safeguard their neighborhood.
The deceased victims were identified as 51-year-old Dachung Danjuma, 37-year-old Victor Danjuma, and 35-year-old Nyam Danjuma. Local witness Lyop Bitrus explained that the brothers were ambushed during their watch, causing widespread fear that forced many residents to abandon their homes.
Victor Danjuma, a father of five, had been living apart from his family for two weeks following previous instability in the region. His wife and children were scheduled to return home this week, but the attack occurred before their planned reunion.
Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association, verified the tragedy and criticized the ongoing insecurity throughout the region. He called upon state security forces to bolster protection for vulnerable populations and track down the culprits behind these recurring assaults.
