A couple visiting Dundee from Buckie had a frightening wake-up call at a local Travelodge when a shirtless stranger appeared in their room. Kim Hutchison and Harry Grieve were sleeping when the man entered, having been incorrectly issued a key card to their room by staff. The intruder, who mistakenly believed he was in his own room, argued briefly before leaving.
Travelodge has issued an apology, acknowledging that their standard security protocols for room access were not properly implemented. The company stated that the team at the Strathmore Avenue location has undergone retraining to prevent future occurrences. While the hotel offered a refund and a voucher, the couple decided to speak publicly about the ordeal to highlight safety concerns, noting that the incident could have easily escalated.
This event follows several other reports of unauthorized individuals gaining access to hotel rooms at various Travelodge properties. The hotel chain maintains that it is conducting an ongoing review of its safety and security procedures.
