Arsenal are intensifying negotiations with Newcastle United to secure the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. Following a rejected £70 million bid, the Premier League titleholders are preparing a more lucrative offer to bring the 28-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.
This move follows Arsenal’s decision to withdraw from the pursuit of Morgan Rogers, who moved to Chelsea for a record-breaking £117 million. Guimaraes, who recorded nine goals and eight assists last season, joined Newcastle for £35 million from Lyon in 2022. Newcastle are eager to resolve the situation quickly to avoid a scenario similar to last year’s departure of Alexander Isak to Liverpool, which involved the player refusing to participate in training.
Although Guimaraes has joined Newcastle’s pre-season camp in Spain following the World Cup, his future remains uncertain ahead of the August 23 season opener. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, while not naming Guimaraes directly, has confirmed the club is actively seeking to improve internal squad competition. Arsenal begin their title defense against Coventry on August 21.
